The scientific committee is pleased to welcome Pr Savary for his talk on Peroxisomes and redox homeostasis, during Antioxidants World Congress 2015
Pr. Savary will focus on recent advances in Peroxisomes and redox homeostasis, during Antioxidants World Congress 2015 held on June 22-24 in Paris.
"X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD), the most frequent peroxisomal disorder is associated with mutation in the ABCD1 gene which encodes for a transporter of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA) leading to an accumulation of VLCFA. The exact link between VLCFA accumulation, demylination and inflammation is still unknown but several evidences indicate that oxidative stress plays a central role in the physiopathogenesis. Besides gene therapy, alternative therapeutic strategies such as pharmacological treatments aiming at reducing oxidative stress and/or inducing the expression of a functionally redundant gene (i.e. ABCD2) have been investigated. Recent data suggest that LXR antagonists could find indication for X-ALD. "
