Targeting mitochondrial mitohormesis mechanisms: improving cellular antioxidant capacities

GenyAs it will be highlighted by Dr Bernard gény during next ISANH congress, mitochondrial hormesis or mitohormesis can be defined as increased mitochondrial biogenesis, triggered by low doses of mitochondrial ROS generation.

 


Such defense mechanism participates in life span extension but a same amount of ROS might be protective or deleterious, depending on target tissue characteristics. Increasing cellular anti-oxidant defence might nevertheless be a promising therapeutic approach.
