Beneficial and Detrimental Effects of Reactive Oxygen Species on Lifespan
Dr. Jeremy Van Raamsdonk, Associate Professor, from McGill University, Montreal, Canada will join the Paris Redox 2021 Congress which will be held on October 13-15, 2021 and will give a presentation entitled "Beneficial and Detrimental Effects of Reactive Oxygen Species on Lifespan".
Despite Dr. Van Raamsdonk's extensive research, it has been discovered that the role of ROS in aging remains incompletely understood. While comparative studies and experimental studies generally support a detrimental effect of ROS on lifespan, exceptions to these relationships have been observed. There are examples in multiple model organisms in which increasing ROS levels extends longevity, and in which decreasing ROS levels shortens lifespan. The exact type, tissue, subcellular location, timing and levels of ROS act to determine whether ROS will act to increase or decrease lifespan.
